Tropical wetlands are an important ecosystem in the Northern Territory. They host a wide diversity of flora and fauna that are sometimes found nowhere else. When we are quiet and still, we see an amazing array of plants, insects, birds and aquatic creatures that always surprise us and that vary with the seasons. Life Among the Lotus is the first print in a wetland series and includes a pair of Jacana among the Sacred Lotus flowers and leaves, Pig-nosed turtle, Barramundi, Freshwater Longtom and Banded Flutterer dragonfly. I enjoyed creating the scenes above and below the waterline to highlight that there is so much more happening in this ecosystem than we see with the naked eye. It is not until we still ourselves and settle into the environment that we can appreciate the wonders of what is happening there. Printed using Cranfield Caligo Phthalo Blue relief ink on deckle-edged Somerset Satin 250gsm paper. Print area is 30x30cm, paper size is 42 x 38cm.
