Field (Grettisgata 56) is part of a series depicting fragments of my life in Iceland. This piece focuses on one of Reykjavík’s 200 preserved, listed buildings—historic houses over 100 years old that form the city’s architectural heritage. As both shelter and symbol, the house evokes notions of permanence, transition, and emotional topography. It becomes a vessel for domestic rituals, migration, and cultural layering—traces of habitation inscribed in wood, stone, and time. Through this work, I examine how lived experience is embedded in the material fabric of place.
