A thistle, spinning, becomes an artichoke—only to turn back again in reverse. It is the call of home, as plants speak of food, beauty, and place: carciofo, artichoke, thistle. Purples and greens evoke a sense of soft, sweet belonging. This delicate print depicts an artichoke in bloom, curving in a gentle, dance-like motion. It plays with light and texture, exploring ideas of place and home. Growing up with family muddled between Italy and Scotland, I have always felt a constant interplay between the two cultures. Here, the artichoke becomes a figurative bridge between these countries—a subconscious, playful exploration of identity, memory, and belonging.
