Klara Hinde’s practice begins with colour as both material and language. Through printmaking, painting and collage, she explores the relationship between emotion, perception and visual experience, using colour as a means of communicating mood, energy and feeling. Joy is a central and intentional presence within the work.

Her process is intuitive and experimental, developing layered abstract compositions through accumulation, fragmentation and translation. Printmaking is fundamental to her practice, providing a space for repetition, chance and material discovery. She works across monoprint, collagraph and relief techniques, combining hand-painted elements with analogue and digital processes to build richly textured surfaces, unexpected forms and complex colour relationships.

Klara’s background in counselling, fine art and sustainable textile design informs an interdisciplinary approach that considers the connections between psychology, materiality and spatial experience. Travel, nature and cultural narratives provide recurring points of reference, distilled into an abstract visual language that evokes atmosphere, memory and emotional resonance.

At the core of her practice is an ongoing exploration of how colour and material can affect the way we feel and experience a space. Through an energetic yet considered approach to making, Klara creates work that balances spontaneity with structure, and playfulness with depth. Klara Hinde is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Edinburgh, working under the name SO KLARA. Her practice spans painting, collage, printmaking, textiles, and interior applications, creating work that bridges fine art and design.

She studied counselling and fine art before completing an MA in Sustainable Textile Design at Chelsea College of Art and Design. This diverse background informs her interest in the relationship between visual culture, material processes, and emotional experience.

Since founding SO KLARA in 2014, Klara has developed a distinctive body of work characterised by bold colour, layered compositions, and an intuitive approach to making. Her practice has been further shaped through printmaking at Glasgow Print Studio and as a current member of Edinburgh Printmakers, where she works with monoprint, collagraph, and relief techniques.

Her work has been shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and exhibited in the UK and internationally. It has also been featured in publications including the Financial Times, ELLE and Homes & Property.

In 2025, Klara was awarded the Clutha Trust Prize in recognition of her printmaking practice. In 2026, she was one of the winners of the Ironbridge Printmaking Competition, further recognising her developing practice within contemporary printmaking.

Travel, nature, and cultural influences continue to inform her evolving visual language. Her work moves between original artworks, limited-edition prints, textiles, and bespoke pieces for interiors, with colour, materiality and emotional resonance remaining central to her practice.
